This January I got to stay 5 days at beautiful Bali between shows in South Easy Asia. I am obsessed with everything Balinese and really wanted to have a memory from there while also keeping up with my promise of uploading sets to my channel.
Of course shooting anything where people are having a vacation or disturbing anyon was out of question! Otherwise I could have shown you this magical place.
But still, I found this corner with an amazing Karang Bhoma as a backdrop in our beautiful hotel and without any speakers or disturbing anyone with our own Iphone and DJI cameras recorded this short set :)
Big thanks to @karavagy for lending & bringing his gear, another big thanks to Fabio for convincing the hotel management last minute and of course also big thanks to the IHG Indigo Hotel Seminyak Bali Management for letting us record this :)
What you see behind me - correct me if I'm wrong - supposed to be a Karang Bhoma according to my little research: a protective architectural ornament in Balinese Hindu culture. They are placed above doors, stages, or entrances, representing Bhoma, a mythological guardian figure (son of Vishnu in some stories). They protect the space from negative energy / spirits.
That intense, almost demon-like face is typically Kala, a protective spirit in Balinese/Hindu architecture. The surrounding carvings are representing balance, nature, and cosmic order, very typical of temple gates and sacred spaces in Bali, saying “Nothing bad enters this space.”
So unintentionally, I was DJing in front of a spiritual security system :')
