For over 20 years, German studio guru Martin Buttrich has been one of house and techno’s most consistent players. Whether it’s working alongside Timo Maas and Loco Dice or his own catalog of productions on the likes of Planet E and Desolat, Buttrich’s experience as a sound engineer shines through in his music. He also channels that experience into a heady live set that threads together his productions and custom edits on the fly.
Last October during Amsterdam Dance Event, Buttrich brought his laptop and controllers to the Beatport studio for a showcase of what he does best. The appearance closely followed the launch of his new label, Rhythm Assault, which he describes as “free from the constraints of rigorously organized and planned imprints.”
Rhythm Assault’s first release, “Synchronicity,” saw Buttrich teaming up with Mathew Jonson, another master of the studio. More collaborations are planned for the label, but don’t expect them to conform to a strict schedule. While we wait for the “Synchronicity” follow up, get into Buttrich’s hour-long session in the Beatport studio above.
