The Lab LDN is Mixmag and Coors Light's weekly live stream, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our world famous office party. This week we welcome Norman Jay, whose impact on UK dance music culture from soundsystems to radio is unparalleled. Jay is one of the country’s most beloved music figures, receiving an MBE for ‘deejaying and services to music’ from the Queen herself in 2002. He co-founded the legendary Good Times soundsystem and London dance music institution, as well as championing the rare groove and acid jazz scenes, the latter with Gilles Peterson via label Talkin’ Loud which he started in 1990. Jay’s talent as a selector also extends to compilations of which he’s made 11, with the latest ‘Mister Good Times’ coming via Sunday Best Recordings on August 25. He’ll be celebrating that release with one of his famous Good Times parties at Mick’s Garage on August 27.

Ever since his release on Hot Creations sub-label Hottrax, Topping has been one of dance music’s brightest new names. Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ label was instrumental in fostering Topping’s talent, releasing five of his EPs that included techy floorfillers ‘Forget’ and ‘Taking Libz’. But it’s in the last 12 months that his star has really begun to shine, reflected in a residency at DC-10, playing Detroit’s Movement, Ultra in Miami and what he describes as “the pinnacle of US festivals”, Coachella. Not that the recent exposure has gone to his head. When we put Topping on our cover in May, he took us to his home of North Shields, Newcastle and showed us around his local haunts, including the fish and chips shop.

The Lab LDN is Mixmag and Coors Light's weekly live stream, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our world famous office party. Next Thursday we return from our jollies in Ibiza back to our London base with a special Defected Croatia takeover helmed by Sonny Fodera and Franky Rizardo. Now that we’ve left the sunny climes of the White Isle, we’re craving another slice of sunshine action, and Defected’s Croatia festival looks like the perfect option. Taking place in Tisno’s paradisiac The Garden Resort across August 10 to 15, the six day party is headlined by artists such as MK, Eats Everything and Kenny Dope. Boat party tickets are close to selling out, full festival tickets are running very low, and day tickets are now on sale. Head to Defected Croatia’s website to make the purchase. Two other artists on the bill are Sonny Fodera and Franky Rizardo, who will be getting us in the mood with a 90 minute back-to-back session in The Lab LDN. The duo are Defected favourites, with over 40 combined releases on Defected Records and a total of 16 appearances at the label’s 2017 Ibiza residency this summer, and are sure to kick the room off with an irresistible blend of fist-pumping house. They’re each well-versed in making and spinning tracks that fire up a dancefloor: Franky’s ‘Same Man’ is currently the longest running Beatport #1 of 2017, and Sonny’s ‘Take It Easy’ remix with Mat.Joe held the title for longest running top spot in 2016.

Between June 22 and July 9 Mixmag and Coors Light are taking over Rooftop Nine for a series of very special Labs from the White Isle, powered by Void Acoustics. We've hand-picked some of the finest artists in the game to spin their interpretation on the original Balearic and sunset groove that Ibiza was founded on. For our final instalment of The Lab IBZ this summer we’re thrilled to be hosting a Defected Records takeover on the blissful Rooftop Nine with Karizma and DJ Spen spinning back-to-back. It’s been an amazing summer so far out on the White Isle, and our closing party looks set to mark a special ending to the series. Karizma’s innovation in the field of DJing has consistently impressed across his illustrious career, with the Baltimore native showcasing a mastery of manipulating music in unique and thrilling ways. His R2 Records imprint has also been responsible for bringing incredible sounds from the likes of Ron Trent, Osunlade and Louie Vega to the world. Fellow Maryland artist DJ Spen has been in the game for three decades and has made an impact on the global dance scene with releases on labels such as Defected, Black Vinyl Records and the output of his own Basement Boys Records, which counts Glenn Underground and Ultra Naté among its roster. Each DJ has a longstanding relationship with Defected, including their clubland hit remix of ‘Bad Habit’. Following The Lab session, the two kindred spirits will be playing in tandem at Defected’s residency at Eden, and you can also catch them at Glitterbox parties at Hï Ibiza and Defected’s Croatia festival across the remainder of summer.
